Most commercial LPBF machines are restrictive on the capabilities allowed to the customer regarding machine control software. While this provides quality assurance and integrity of the machine, it inhibits the end user on the capabilities to fully leverage the design space AM offers and maximize the potential of their applications. Open Additive uses a software called Open Machine Control (OMC) for our LPBF machines to allow the user to maximize the capabilities of the system. This unrestricted access enables self-created closed loop feedback control of the machine, designer scan strategies, and greatly simplified DOE creation. During this presentation, Open Additive will demonstrate the OMC software capabilities through the proof-of-concept use case of identifying physical defects in the process and automatically redirecting OMC to remove the problem.
